Thinking of buying an oximeter? This mobile app can monitor pulse rate, blood oxygen level
India is currently battling the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic which has wreaked havoc in the country since 2020. Amid the battle against the virus, oximeters have become an essential household item and with their increasing demand, The prices of pulse oximeters have also been scoured by the manufacturers.
Now, in order to replace an oximeter, a Calcutta-based healthcare startup has developed a mobile application. The app called CarePlix Vital’s is important because it can help you monitor your blood oxygen levels, pulse and respiratory rate.
According to a report from BGR.in, the user has to use the mobile app and place a finger on the phone’s rear camera and flashlight. Once done, within seconds the oxygen saturation (SpO2), pulse, and respiration rates are displayed on the device.
Speaking of the same, Subhabrata Paul, co-founder of CareNow Healthcare, told the Indian Express: “People needed a pulse oximeter or similar wearable devices like a smartwatch to get their vital signs. such as oxygen saturation and pulse rate. is photoplethysmography or PPG. ”
For the uninformed, the CarePlix Vital app is a recording-based app. The reports state: “Within 40 seconds the reading is displayed and using an internet connection the readings can be saved to the cloud for recording.”
Speaking about the idea behind CarePlix Vital, co-founder Monosij Sengupta said: “The idea stems from the known fact of cardiovascular deaths in the country.”
The clinical trial of the device was conducted earlier in 2021 by the team at Seth Sukhlal Karnani Memorial Hospital Kolkata with 1,200 people.
