Pregnant woman saves 3 drowning children from Lake Michigan
According to People Magazine, the incident happened at First Street Beach Pier in Manistee County, Michigan on Tuesday at 5:40 p.m. Alyssa DeWitt, who is five months pregnant, was on the beach with her children when she saw arms stir in the water.
DeWitt, who described the situation in a Post on Facebook, said she immediately took her own children out of the lake and ran to the pier.
“A group of children were being shot into the lake and bumping into the jetty wall. They could barely keep their heads above water, ”she wrote. “They were literally drowning in front of my eyes and there wasn’t a single person on this side of the beach I could cry out for help. It was empty. “
DeWitt called 911, however, due to the intensity of the winds, she said it was difficult to hear the dispatcher.
“Then the adrenaline kicked in and I did it somehow,” DeWitt said.
People Magazine says she lay down on the side of the pier, stretched out her arms and finally pulled the three children over the pier wall.
“I shot each of them over the jetty wall. I don’t know how, but I did it, ”DeWitt told Michigan TV station. WPBN.
By the time the police arrived at the scene, the children had been rescued. Officials told the outlet that all parties involved suffered minor injuries, but it could have been a lot worse if DeWitt hadn’t intervened when she did.
WPBN also reports that DeWitt went to the emergency room after the incident to be checked. Doctors have reportedly said that she and her unborn child are doing well.
Meanwhile, DeWitt credits her heroic rescue to God and says she hopes her story “will help keep your faith and love for God alive.”
