Champ offers a unique challenge to Francis Ngannou
It seems like everyone wants to fight UFC heavyweight champion Francis Ngannou these days, but only one champion can offer Ngannou a completely different type of fighting than everyone else. WBC boxing champion and linear heavyweight Tyson Fury has long said he wants a boxing match against Ngannou, but “The Gypsy King” told Michael Bisping in a recent interview with BT Sport that he would like to box Ngannou. in an MMA cage wearing 4- ounce gloves.
“I will fight Ngannou with the little gloves in a cage, but no grappling and all that,” Fury told BT Sport.

Ngannou against Fury: “Boxing Cage”
Fury called the mega-light “cage boxing,” and such a fight would be something different from what even the latest and greatest cross-show fights offer.
Fury believes merging the rules would offer a competitive fight. Ngannou could wear the smaller gloves, but no wrestling or kicking would be allowed.
“Cage boxing… I would fight these guys, but you yourself know it’s a whole different game.” [game]. It’s like cricket and tennis. They both have balls and rackets, but that’s a whole different thing, ”Fury said.
While Fury has teased the idea of participating in MMA fights in the past, the boxing champion admitted to Bisping that it was all just talk. Fury is a world champion boxer and he never plans to move on to the world of MMA.
“If I fight Ngannou in a wrestling match I’m not a wrestler, so I’m just going to be taken down like James Toney and torn to pieces,” Fury said.
Fury was referring to former boxing champion’s short MMA fight against UFC legend Randy Couture. “The Natural” took Toney to the ground and the fight ended in a hurry.
Even when Bisping explained to Fury that Ngannou was not really a wrestling-based MMA star, the boxing champion clarified his position on this.
“Well he knows more than I do,” Fury said.
Still, Fury seems to believe that a boxing match against Ngannou in a cage with small gloves on would bring the best of boxing and MMA into an incredible new thing.
At a minimum, it would allow Fury to participate in some aspect of his favorite part of the UFC.
“I think the only exciting thing about the UFC is when they get up and hit each other,” Fury said.

Ngannou and Fury already have other fights planned
It’s a fun idea, but Fury won’t face Ngannou next.
Fury faces former WBC heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder on July 24 in Las Vegas. Fury and Wilder fought to a draw in 2018, and Fury won the rematch by a seventh round stoppage in 2020.
Now Fury and Wilder are going to meet again.
Meanwhile, Ngannou is likely heading for his own rematch against UFC heavyweight hitter Derrick Lewis. This fight has yet to be announced, but UFC President Dana White has repeatedly said he’s on his way.
But after that?
Maybe Fury and Ngannou could finally rumble in a unique boxing cage fight for the ages.
