Beta version to support 4 devices, one phone
Multi-device support for WhatsApp is expected to roll out to the beta version of the app very soon. The company chief and even Mark Zuckerberg have officially announced that the feature is expected to roll out within the next two months. The feature has been spotted on the app but it is still not functional, even for beta testers of the app.
A recent screenshot of WhatsApp’s multi-device support was shared by WABetaInfo, a website that tracks beta version functionality. The screenshot mentions that multi-device support on WhatsApp will initially work on four devices and one smartphone at a time. This implies that the feature may not support multiple smartphones initially. Other device formats will only include WhatsApp Web, WhatsApp Desktop, and Portal.
Additionally, WhatsApp has also released some pointers regarding the new feature. User will not be able to message or call from web, desktop, or portal to users who have an outdated version of WhatsApp on their phone. Functionality may also be affected in the beta version.
Multi-device support on beta versions is expected to roll out within 2 months or a little longer.
The other feature that has been confirmed is the “disappearance mode”. The feature of disappearing messages is already available for users to apply on different chats. With disappearance mode, users will be able to convert all chats to disappearance mode where messages will be automatically deleted after a stipulated period of time.
WhatsApp will also launch what are called “view once” messages. As the name suggests, once the function is activated, messages read or viewed once will disappear. Similar functionality is available on Instagram and Snapchat.
