3 adults and 1 child injured in the Paducah accident
PADUCAH (WSIL) – Several people were injured, including a child, in an accident in Paducah.
At around 9:15 p.m. on Thursday, Dalton Blakey, 28 from Barlow, Ky, was driving north on McKendree Church Road, approaching an intersection, when he failed to stop for the stop sign. Blakey pulled into the path of an oncoming car, traveling west.
The second vehicle, driven by 18-year-old Lydia Barlow, rolled off the pavement, struck Mansfield’s sidewalk, struck the fuel pump and came to a stop.
She was able to extricate herself from the vehicle before being taken to hospital for injuries.
Blakey’s girlfriend, Renata Veljacic, 28, was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle. She was airlifted to a regional hospital with serious injuries. Blakey was injured and taken to a local hospital for treatment.
Two children in the vehicle were not properly restrained during the accident. A 4-year-old child was injured and taken by ambulance to hospital. A 1-year-old child is unharmed and is cared for by members of his family.
Following the crash investigation, Blakey was arrested after being medically discharged from hospital and charged with:
- Driving a motor vehicle under the influence
- Failure to maintain insurance
- Unwanted endangerment 1st Degree
- Assault 2nd Degree
